Weak orb pushes through A smokescreen of houses, trees Possessions now ash

Morning sun streams low It bathes the gardens in gold All else disappears

Rust red is the bridge Fresh are possibilities In the morning light

Protest with your feet Civil disobedience Is also free speech

It starts out bitter But sharpens and satiates, Finishes creamy.

You love ice and snow But your kindness kept us warm Kindled our science.

While choppers hover, I search for humanity In eye contact, smiles

Intermittent streams Non intermittent friendships Flowing through this life

Lightning cracks the sky The air stitched with thick tension Looming “free speech” week.

While I contemplate Drought, a hummingbird flashes Red throat through the glass.
